ICSL MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of International Christian School of Lima is to provide a quality education in the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social, and physical dimensions of life; to instill in each student a Biblical worldview, a respect for people of all cultures and religions, and a desire for academic excellence.

AIMS OF THE SCHOOL

  • The school will strive to provide quality Christian education for the needs of the international community.
  • The school will provide a foundation for tertiary education, which will facilitate continuous study in the English language abroad.
  • The school will operate grades Kindergarten – 12.
  • The program will be adapted to the needs of the international student as much as possible.
  • Although the general program will be an American-style academic approach, it will strive to have a trans-cultural emphasis that transcends any one culture or nationality.
  • The school will be a non-profit organization.
  • There will be a varied extra-curricular program (sports, clubs, drama, recreation, etc.)
  • Core curriculum instruction will be in the English language.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

The educational philosophy of ICSL is based on a God-centered view that all truth is God’s truth, and that the Bible is the inspired, authoritative word of God. Because God is the Creator and sustainer of all things, the universe and man are dynamically related to God. Thus, all learning is accomplished in light of God’s truth (John 14:6; John 17:17).

ICSL is dedicated to establishing a godly environment where the Bible is actively integrated into all aspects of school life. (I Corinthians 10:31)

The purpose of education is to cooperate with parents to develop the knowledge and character that will enable students to fulfill their role within God’s plan. (Deuteronomy 6:6,7)

ICSL believes that respect for authority is an essential ingredient to quality education and character development; therefore our classrooms are controlled with firm, loving discipline by qualified and dedicated Christian teachers. (Hebrews 12:6-11)

Our international atmosphere is an open door for students of all cultures, races, and nationalities. (Revelation 7:9,10)

The school is a private non-profit school established to primarily serve the international community. Its aim is to provide a quality education in the tradition of classic, conservative Christian ethics and values, which are in agreement with the purposes of the sponsoring organization, Network of International Christian Schools (NICS). It is to be understood, however, that all cultures, customs and religions will be treated with respect. The school will commit itself to minister to the whole person. Therefore, its program is directed toward individual development and enrichment in the following areas: intellectual, physical, moral, spiritual, and social, incorporated into the areas of citizenship training, character development, personal values, and ethics.

Emphasis will be placed on instilling respect for all people and nations, but especially for the people and country of Peru as the host nation.

Since learning is an unbroken activity continued throughout an individual’s life, education should foster independent thinking, exploration and healthy experimentation as a life-long process.

Because change is a constant factor in life, education should encourage students to develop personal values and thinking processes, which will facilitate their intelligent adaptability to a changing society and world.

ICSL believes that each student is created as a unique individual and is of supreme worth. Consequently, the dignity and worth of the individual should be highly respected. The school believes that students vary as to inherent and acquired capabilities and that these differences must be taken into consideration in the educational process.

The ICSL average Stanford Achievement Test scores of all students combined (except ESL students) shall be above national averages in the USA. However, ICSL shall always attempt to instill within the students a love of learning and shall give this goal higher priority than actual test scores.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PHILOSOPHY

Guided by this philosophy, the School will exert every effort to:

  • Develop in each student a mastery of the skills of communication and learning
  • Teach that the Bible is the inspired, authoritative word of God, thus developing attitudes of love and respect towards it.
  • Develop responsible individuals who possess the ability to think clearly, logically and independently as participating members of a self-governing society.
  • Provide opportunities for citizenship training and character development for effective participation in the family and society.
  • Include those experiences and activities for each pupil, which will lead to the enrichment of their own life, through spiritual, moral, social, intellectual, physical aesthetic development.
  • Develop in each student understanding and appreciation of cultural, social, scientific, economic, and political ideas and practices.
  • Provide physical and health education enabling the students to live an energetic, wholesome and productive life.
  • Provide the opportunity for each student to develop and to appreciate ethical and cultural values, with particular emphasis on the Spanish language and culture of our host country.
  • Provide a program of student activities designed to develop competent, self-directed, responsible, social interaction in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation.
  • Develop in each student interests, skills and attitudes that contribute to the worthy use of leisure time.
