The Special Education program at ICSL is available for students, grades K-12, who require additional assistance in their academic and social development. The main objective of the program is for the students to learn the necessary skills to become independent learners within the classroom. The Resource Room teacher works with the students in the skill areas of difficulty and creates a program to individually meet their needs. An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) is developed for each student, which includes areas of needed support, goals for each area, accommodations and quarterly updates on student progress. Depending on the needs of the student, they may go to the Resource Room for assistance or receive support in the classroom by the Special Education teacher. In order to give the student the best assistance possible, the Resource Room teacher works with the parents and the classroom teacher to provide consistent and individual support to help the student grow. When students have demonstrated that they are able to independently apply the skill areas on their own, they are transitioned out of the program.
